The Classroom

Sensorial

A child is creating his intelligence through his experience in the environment.  Through all his senses, the child explores his environment, gathering vague impressions.  The Montessori Sensorial Materials aid the child by enabling him to make conscious classification, clarification and organization of these impressions.  The materials develop the child's ability to distinguish qualities in objects.  Each piece of material provides the opportunity for the child to be active with his hands, encouraging the mind/body connection.

Math

To aid the child's mathedmatical mind, we provide math as a part of the child's daily life experiences.  The child helps set up snack for himself and his friends.  We explain the number of pieces he can have and the amount of juice he should pour.  Using the Montessori Math Materials, the child learns the quantity of a number, to recognize the symbol and then bring them together to fully understand the mathematical meaning of numbers.

Practical Life

The Practical Life area of the classroom has exercises that help the chld learn how to care for himself and his environment.  Some of the different exercises are:  washing hands, using dressing frames, arranging flowers, washing and drying dishes.  Their large motor and small motor skills are improved using interesting, every day activities they see adults doing and long to do themselves.  They develop good study skills for later use through the concentration and coordination it takes to master the skills they are using in this area of the classroom.

Language

To help the chid with their verbal expression, the teacher carries on natural conversations by telling them stories and encouraging them to speak distinctly.  The child will be encouraged to tell his own stories of events that have happened to them.  The language materials give the child the skills to begin writing and reading first phonetic sounds, then words.

Additional Areas of the Classroom

Our Montessori program includes an art area, a book corner, science and geography area.  Special art projects and musical movement activities are also presented to the children.

The Prepared Environment will Provide the Opportunity for Your Child to Acquire:

The Teachers

The Teacher in a Montessori Classroom helps the individual child by guiding the child at his or her own pace and gently directs the child's natural energies towards constructive, developmentally appropriate experiences.

Our staff consists of dedicated, patient, caring, certified Montessori Teachers.  We not only nurture the child, but also support the parents by encouraging them to communicate their ideas and concerns.  We work as a team to help prepare the child to attain responsibility and self-discipline, simply because there can be no true and lasting happiness in life without it.

Come and meet our teachers and see why our children shi
